Testing innovative spectacles for astronauts with presbyopia
Presbyopia is an age-related condition where the eye loses its ability to focus on nearby objects. The condition is typically corrected with progressive addition lenses (PALs), which enhance near vision in their lower segment. Shamir Overhead PALs offer a solution for astronauts with presbyopia by integrating near vision correction into the upper portion of the lens. This experiment sought to evaluate the effectiveness of these lenses in enabling clear vision both below and above eye level — for instance, when looking at overhead instruments and panels.
