A miniaturized microgravity lab for conducting reliable, reproducible and calibrated unmanned experiments
Microgravity is a unique environment that accelerates biological and chemical processes, enabling rapid dimensional growth of cultured cells and organoids and improved protein crystallization. SpacePharma developed a miniaturized state-of-the-art microgravity laboratory called SpacePharma Advanced Lab (SPAD). Remotely controlled from Earth, SPAD enables researchers to conduct reliable, reproducible and calibrated unmanned experiments. The aim of this study was to advance SPAD from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 8 to TRL 9 and evaluate the functionality of the complete system and its constituent subsystems to ensure their capability of supporting biological experiments in microgravity.
